Lindsay Lohan's 911 scare
In 1999, Detroit welcomed home one of its unsung heroes. Barbara Dane, a social activist known for performing jazz-tinged blues and folk, performed a concert at the First Unitarian Church.
It turns out that the concert was recorded and filmed for CD and DVD, and to celebrate their release, the Sunday Progress Cinema Club is hosting a screening of "Barbara Dane Returns" on Sunday at Garage Cultural in Detroit. The original concert featured musical director Bill Meyer, Martha Reeves and John White Jr., and a gaggle of other Detroiters, among them the late bassist Don Mayberry, drummer Leonard King and trumpeter Rayse Biggs.
As a special coda, a number of the musicians who appeared at the concert will attend the screening and will be joined by Dane, 85, via a live video feed from Oakland, Calif., after the film.
The screening starts at 6 p.m. Sunday at Garage Cultural, 3439 Livernois (south of Michigan Avenue) in Detroit. A Latin American potluck dinner begins at 5 p.m. (Bring a dish or $10 admission.)
LiLo's 911 scare
It was another eventful Friday for Lindsay Lohan.
Last week, she made news when she escaped virtually unharmed from an accident on California's Pacific Coast Highway that resulted in her Porsche being totaled.
This week, according to www.tmz.com, rescuers were called to her Marina del Rey, Calif., hotel, where she was thought to be unresponsive.
According to the actress' rep, it was a false alarm.
LiLo had been up all night filming the Lifetime movie "Liz & Dick" -- based on the love story of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton -- and returned to the Ritz Carlton complaining of exhaustion.
At the film production crew's request, a doctor was on the way to check on the actress, but when hotel employees knoc! ked on t he door and couldn't wake her, they called 911. Paramedics arrived, determined there was nothing wrong with Lohan and left without transporting her to the hospital.

Baldwin and another plaintiff were seeking $17 million in damages.
