Santa Monica police continued to investigate an accident that sent actress Lindsay Lohan to the hospital Friday.

Lohan was released after a few hours and did not suffer major injuries, her publicist announced. She will resume work on her Lifetime TV movie in which she portrays Elizabeth Taylor.

Officials said Lohan's Porsche collided with a dump truck Friday morning on Pacific Coast Highway.

"A preliminary investigation revealed that both vehicles were driving northbound on Pacific Coast Highway when the Porsche struck the rear end of the dump truck. Cause of the accident is under investigation," the department said in a statement.

Officials said it was not clear if Lohan was driving the Porsche.

"Investigators are attempting to determine the driver of the black Porsche at the time of the collision," the statement said. Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Investigators Chris Dawson or Jason Olson at (310) 458-8954 or the Santa Monica Police Department at (310) 458-8495.

The crash occurred during an upswing in Lohan's fortunes after several years of police blotter incidents and a parade of court appearances. Lohan has said she learned her lessons from those experiences.

Lohan received probation for a 2007 conviction for driving under the influence. She wa! s later convicted of shoplifting and was on probation for that offense as well.

Lohan was sent to jail several times for violating the terms of her probation. But she hewed to a strict regimen of community service at the county morgue and counseling. In March, a judge ended her probation in the DUI case and reduced the shoplifting probation to unsupervised status.
