Lindsay Lohan has been called out for apparently skipping work by the writer of her upcoming film The Canyons.

The actress stars alongside adult performer James Deen in the film, written by American Psycho scribe Bret Easton Ellis.

Now in post-production, the movie tells the story of "youth, glamour, sex and Los Angeles" in the modern day.

Ellis, who has been very involved in the making of the picture, complained on Thursday (October 18) on his official Twitter about Lohan's absence during an ADR recording of several scenes.

Referencing the central serial killer of American Psycho, he wrote: "Patrick Bateman has just headed over to Lindsay Lohan's hotel to confront her as to why she missed her f**king ADR on The Canyons today..."

Lohan, whose last tweet was on October 17, has yet to respond to Ellis.

The Canyons, directed by Paul Schrader, is due for release in 2013.
