Relief For Lindsay Lohan And Ryan Scrader, The Canyons Rights Bought By IFC

It looked like a wild ride that was going to have an unhappy ending, but the Lindsay Lohan-starring The Canyons is finally going to get a release, with MTV reporting that IFC Films has acquired the rights to the movie, and will be putting it out at some point in the summer.

Directed by Paul Schrader, and starring Lohan and porn star James Deen, the haphazard nature of filming on a low budget with two such turbulent stars was exposed by the New York Times, with it telling a tale of constant no-shows, erratic behavior and breakdowns. However, it looks like for now its all been worth it. "I am delighted our film has found an enthusiastic home at IFC." Schrader said in a statement. "We envisioned 'The Canyons' as a multi-platform release from the beginning and no company knows that world better than IFC."

The script was penned by American Psycho author Brett Easton Ellis, and in his own statement he commented "The DIY ethos behind the movie dovetails perfectly with IFC's commitment to release the film this summer. Finally the movie will be able to be seen and viewers can judge for themselves rather than relying on the undeservedly snarky press 'The Canyons' has received so far, a comment presumably made in reference to The Times. This distribution model is the future for a certain kind of adult drama that is now officially non-ex! istent within the old-school studio system. 'The Canyons,' regardless of what you think of it, is an example of the next step in what will now be the future of post-theatrical feature-length content." Whilst they sound confident, they might want to remember that Lohans supposed big comeback in Lifetime TV film Liz & Dick utterly tanked with critics. Theyre not out of the woods yet.
