Lindsay Lohan's father Michael Lohan has escaped jail time on a domestic violence charge.

Michael was first arrested following a physical altercation with ex-girlfriend Kate Major in October.

He was then jailed again when he defied a Florida judge's order not to contact Major by continuously calling her.

A judge denied Michael's request for bail three weeks ago, leaving Lindsay's father to remain in jail prior to a plea hearing.

On Wednesday, Michael was spared any further time behind bars by entering a no contest plea to a domestic violence charge, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The presiding judge sentenced Michael to two years of probation and warned him not to contact Major under any circumstances.

Michael will also be required to spend four months in a residential rehab facility and take domestic violence prevention classes.

He vowed to the judge that he will never contact Major again, sayin! g: "My h and has been bit too many times."

Major and Michael were at one time engaged to be married, but the couple called off their plans to wed in July 2010.
