Lindsay Lohan responds to Rosie O'Donnell's criticism of Liz Taylor movie: "I know that I'm great"

By Kate Stanhope,

One day after Rosie O'Donnell's harsh criticism of Lindsay Lohan's latest role, the Mean Girls actress is firing back and saying she could care less what O'Donnell thinks.

"It's funny that someone you don't know at all can say something so intrusive and so knowing," Lohan told Access Hollywood. "She should base her opinions when she meets someone."

While appearing on Tuesday's Today show, O'Donnell said she didn't believe Lohan was right to play Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming Lifetime movie Liz & Dick. "No, because she's had a lot of trouble doing every single movie, including [Saturday Night Live]," she said. "She was out and not at rehearsal and I think she's not in a place to work... I feel very sorry for her. I think she needs a lot of help. She needs a lot of time away."

O'Donnell went on to say that Lohan turned in her last "good" performance at the age of 16-- almost a decade ago. "I don't think she's right for the role, and I don't think she's capable at this point of doing what's needed to portray that character," O'Donnell said. "I think the interest level in her has waned significantly."

Despite the former talk show host's jabs, Lohan, 25, says she knows she is the right person for the job. "I know that I'm great... I know Liz Taylor really well and we shared some makeup artists... same hairstylist. We've worked with a lot of the same people. She sent me a ring at one point in my life, from her House of Taylor Costume Collection," Lindsay said. "I'm really lucky to be able to do this role and I just want to honor her the way that she should be honored, because she's helped a lot of people in her life."

Lindsay Lohan confirmed to play Elizabeth Taylor

"I'm going to do the best that I can do with the role and I'm very excited to do it," Lohan added.

But before she steps into the role of one of Hollywood's most famous leading ladies, Lohan will first film an appearance as herself for an upcoming episode of Glee. In the two-hour episode, set to air May 15, Lohan will play one of three celebrities judging Nationals-- New Directions' major competition-- alongside Perez Hilton and Entourage's Rex Lee. "I'm kind of nervous," Lohan said of the taping, taking place this week in Los Angeles. "[It] should be a fun shoot and it was fun the first day and everyone on the set is really nice... I feel really lucky."
