Aerosmith plays free outdoor concert in Boston

Thousands of Aerosmith fans hung out windows, crowded fire escapes and stood on roofs -- basically jammed in wherever they coul! d on Monday -- to watch the band perform in front of the Boston building in where the band members once lived.

The free concert aimed to encourage voting and promote the bands new album, which came out on Election Day. On the playlist: "Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion and some from their new album, Music from Another Dimension!

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was among those at the show, getting onstage with other football team officials after the band arrived in an amphibious tour vehicle.

The caravan of seven duck boats shut down city streets as a police escort led the way from TD Garden arena to 1325 Commonwealth Ave.

Angela Menino, wife of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, presented band members with street signs commemorating their old address and a city plaque that will be mounted in front of the building. It notes that Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton lived in the buildings second story in the 1970s, and that it was there the The Bad Boys of Boston got their start in rock music.

Boston University student Becca Emmetts, who lives in Aerosmiths former building, sent a friend to her physics class with this message explaining her tardiness: Aerosmith was playing on my front stoop.

Bruno Mars: SNL can call me whenever they want

How much did Bruno Mars love appearing on Saturday Night Live? So much he can't wait to repeat the experience.

Whatever SNL wants from me, they can always call me, he said. I dont know who told them I can act or anything cause I cant. I dont know what they saw. ! (But) wha! tever they need from me, they can get.

The singer-songwriters Oct. 20 appearance as host and musical guest gave the NBC variety show its second-best ratings this season behind last weeks episode, hosted by comedian Louis C.K.

The Grammy winner says he watched the show days after it aired live, and thats when things started to sink in, especially seeing himself dressed as a woman. I was like, Oh my god, he said, laughing.

Mars was praised for his silly sketches, particularly one skit where he did impersonations of other musicians as a live fill-in at Pandora when the companys computers crashed.

It was kind of a way for me to face my fears and just let it all hang loose, literally, he said. People dont understand that theyre changing things right before the show, so you cant memorize lines because theyre going to change it. They cut sketches and its an amazing operation. I wouldnt trade that experience for the world.
