Lindsay Lohan spared actual jail sentence, sent to rehab for crash case (Photo)

Lindsay Lohan has been sentenced to five days in jail -- at a rehab center -- after pleading no contest to charges over a 2012 car crash case in a last-ditch deal her lawyer reached with prosecutors.

The 26-year-old actress, who has faced more than five years of personal and legal turmoil, arrived 50 minutes late for a trial on Monday, March 18 and landed by private jet from New York to Los Angeles International Airport, located near the courthouse. An unidentified person threw glitter at her as security officers shuffled her past the paparazzi and news photographers outside the entrance.

Lohan's attorney, Mark Heller, met for about two hours with prosecutors and the judge, who later handed down the actress' sentence after announcing the deal. Lohan was ordered to complete five days in jail, which will be "absorbed" into a 90-day rehab stint that will take place behind locked doors.

She was also given 18 months of psychological counseling and 30 days of community labor, which she will be allowed to complete in New York, where she lives, along with her mother and siblings.

The "Mean Girls" star had pleaded no contest to charges of lying to cops, reckless driving and "willfully resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer in the course of their duties," stemming from a June 2012 car accident in Los Angeles. While she has pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges, they did spur a judge to revoke her probation from a 2011 missing necklace case.

"A suggestion: Don't drive," the judge told Lohan on Monday. "You're in New York - you don't need to drive."

Lohan's probation was extended for another two years on Monday. She was also given a suspended sentence of 180 days in county jail, which means she would only have to serve that time if she is found to have violated her probation by not completing her sentence or by otherwise breaking any laws. She has a hearing on May 2 to show proof she has enrolled in psychological counseling and community labor.

Lohan has appeared in court more than 18 times during more than five years worth of legal turmoil, which has included five jail stints that have lasted a total of less than two weeks. She has also been treated for substance abuse.

In late February, the attorney told OTRC's parent company, KABC Television, that "Lindsay has experienced an epiphany," adding: "She has looked very closely at the present circumstance and has decided time has come to take a path that will enable her to be a proud, productive and positive contributor in her life, to her family, society and to the industry."

Heller added that Lohan was already undergoing intense psychotherapy sessions and that she wants to record public service announcements about the! dangers ! of domestic violence, alcohol abuse and drunken driving. At Monday's trial, he noted that the actress would be credited for two months worth of counseling.

Lindsay Lohan's other legal issues

Lohan is also facing misdemeanor charges over a separate case -- she is accused of getting into an altercation with a woman, a psychic, at a New York nightclub. Heller says Lohan never made physical contact with her.
